Dock Worker

As a dock worker or stevedore, you’ll be responsible for efficiently loading and unloading cargo from ships,  and ensuring the efficient transfer of goods to and from docks or vessels. Your duties might include operating heavy machinery like cranes and forklifts, securing cargo for transport, and following safety protocols meticulously to prevent accidents.  

You’ll collaborate closely with port operators, logistics personnel, and other team members to ensure the seamless flow of goods in and out of the port. Your meticulous handling of cargo will play a pivotal role in global trade and supply chain efficiency.

Your Journey to Port Marine Operative

Health & Safety
Port operatives work in potentially dangerous environments, so health and safety practices are crucial. You may learn about how to handle hazardous materials, use personal protective equipment, and follow safety protocols.
Port Operations
You’ll discover how different types of cargo are handled, using cranes and forklifts to move and secure cargo. You’ll also learn about the various functions of a port, such as ship scheduling, cargo storage, and inventory management, as well as the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
Communication Skills
As a port operative, you’ll need to communicate effectively with other workers, supervisors, and customers. You may learn how to use radio equipment, write reports, and work as part of a team.
